I  have always loved history and look for the stories that are expressed in objects and places of the past. I see moments in people's lives, the ever changing weather, time itself, presented in the flaking paint of old buildings.  The erosion evident in these ancient mountains, one season transitioning into the next, makes me feel connected to eons past. It makes me wonder about all who have passed this way before.  It makes me appreciate this connection to moments in the past and each fragile, precious moment of now.

My first love for art was portraiture  While earning my BS in Fine Arts at Western Michigan University, my passions in other subjects evolved.  Regardless of my subject matter, still life or landscape, I instinctively approach each as if it is a portrait. I strive to express its unique character, beauty, and complexity through direct observation, color choices, and expressive brushstrokes of oil paint.

I have enjoyed teaching classes and workshops in Florida, where I lived for over 40 years.  I have also been honored to have been accepted into numerous juried shows, solo exhibits, and received multiple awards throughout my artistic career. I am happiest when I am learning and trying something new.  That always fills me with the hope that this new blank canvas is going to be the best one yet!
