Michael Robinson, a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina, has lived in Asheville since 1991. In high school Michael was selected to attend the North Carolina Governor’s school in Art. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from North Carolina State University School of Design, was a core student in photography at Penland School of Crafts, and received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Michael worked as an architect in Boston, Massachusetts, Providence, Rhode Island and Asheville for 34 years before deciding in 2015 to shift from part time painting and drawing to a full time endeavor.
Over the years Michael has taken workshops with Richard Oversmith, Mark Henry, Deborah Squires, Steven Miller and David Santillanes.
“My goal as a landscape artist is to explore ways to convey my sense of being in the landscape through painting and drawing; in such a way that the viewer can share the experience of seeing, the idea of interpretation, and the beauty of the place.”
