“Opening Up to Art"
Asheville Gallery of Art’s November show, “Opening Up to Art,” is a multi-member show featuring each artist’s personal exploration into being part of this world during uneasy times. The show runs November1-31 during gallery hours, 12-5 pm,Thursdays,Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Among the many artist members exhibiting, some shared insights on their works. Chris Bell,noted for custom portraits, also explores the natural world through her art.She oftens uses alcohol inks to create colorful and expressive interpretations of the wonder around us. Of her painting, Egret on a Tin Roof, Chris says,"It's as if the egret is thinking, I can feel it..coming in the air tonight."
Olga Dorenko says of her painting in the show, Winter Sun, that it reminds her of Russian winters. "I lived in Siberia for five years. And while the weather is cold with lots of snow, there are many magical scenes that are soft and peaceful."
A 31-member cooperative, Asheville Gallery of Art embraces the diversity of styles, techniques, mediums and viewpoints each of our artists uses to interpret both the inner and outer world. Even during this time of pandemic life, we have stayed connected to one another and to our resilient mountain community. We continue to focus on making new and exciting works and letting our art speak for us.
