Prospective Member Information
Current dues are $1,200.00 per year, payable either in full on/or before August 1st or in three installments ($400.00 each) on/or before the following dates: August 1st, November 1st, and March 1st. AGA’s fiscal year is from November 1st through October 31st.
Some of the Co-op Membership Requirements are:
Work one day a month in the gallery as the clerk
Greet and interact with customers
Become proficient at completing all different types of sales transactions and tasks
Serve on at least two committees, which requires extra time each month beyond scheduled work days
Computer skills, including emailing, word processing, and social media
Rotate art work every three months
Attend all meetings or provide a member proxy form when absent
You will need a Merchant Certificate of Registration, commonly called a Sales and Use Tax ID Registration. You can apply for this at the North Carolina Department of Revenue, 2800 Heart Drive, Asheville, NC 28806 (behind the outlet mall in the Ridgefield Business Park), phone 1- 877-252-3052 or online at dor.state.nc.us.
AGA holds an open jury from time to time. If you wish to be notified, please file an application with the gallery. You can access the applications on the AGA website, www.ashevillegallery-of-art.com, click “contact us” and choose “Membership Application.” You many also pick up an application at the gallery during regular business hours. When contacted regarding jury time and date, bring six works of art, each ready to hang and labeled with title, medium, size, and price. Also bring eight collated copies of your application on top. Although the utmost care will be taken in handling artwork, the Asheville Gallery of Art will not be responsible for any damage or loss of artwork submitted for jury purposes.
AGA has 31 artists’ spaces. Accepted artists will be put on a wait list to fill spaces when they come available. Those artists who have been juried into AGA, and are on the list, must pay a one-time place-holding fee of $100.00, which will be applied toward their first annual member- ship dues. However, the $100.00 are non-refundable if artists ultimately choose not to join AGA.
