"Expressions of Nature"
Growing up in a small town in Ohio, I was not exposed to art of any kind. There were no trips to museums, nor studios and art galleries. However, when I went to college, I decided to major in art. Needless to say, I was not very creative or skilled; but having no bad habits to break, I slowly began to learn. Creative expression is a process that is ongoing throughout a lifetime. It has many avenues to explore and one is never truly satisfied with the status quo.
In the past few years, I have begun to focus more and more on painting from nature. As I travel, I view scenes with a “painter’s eye,” wondering how it could be expressed, what colors would be used, and what would be the best composition. There is always a spiritual element with what I paint, a need to connect emotionally with the viewer. I also desire to capture the beauty of the subject, what it was that caught my eye in the first place. And if I create a painting that achieves those things, then maybe it will in some way reflect the Creator Himself.

Jane Snyder
"Invoking the Goddess"
There will be an opening reception on Friday, February 29 from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. The public is welcome.
During the month of March, The Asheville Gallery of Art will feature an exhibit entitled, "Invoking the Goddess", watercolor and mixed watermedia paintings by Jane Snyder.
Fascinated by carvings, sculptured figurines and pottery created by ancient cultures from around the world, Jane created a collection of works that represent our present yet disconnected link to the ancient sacred feminine. I am drawn to the process of creating these paintings as I feel a thread of deep connection to people who have come before us who recognized and venerated the inherent beauty and sacredness of the Goddess.
The show will run March 1 through March 30.
