 Artist Statement

I work in several different mediums; watercolor, collage, clay and mixed-media sculpture.  I love to travel to many different parts of the world, but primarily to South-East Asia, where I am constantly inspired by the people I meet, and the natural beauty of the environment.  I am fascinated with portraying the human face and body in many different mediums, and feel that my experience in theater is often reflected in my work.  I am a passionate gardener, and love to paint flowers, particularly those in the countries I visit.

As well as continuing to paint figurative, portrait,and floral works in traditional transparent watercolor, I have become interested in collage, using my pastel drawings or watercolors as a base for the composition, and incorporating paint, pastel, and hand-made papers from all over the world.

Each piece of art I produce provides me with a learning experience.  Each piece takes on a life of their own, teaching me and taking me in directions I'd never consciously thought of before.  The journey is exciting, and never ends.

 Biography

I was born in what is now Zimbabwe and have lived in England, Australia, and the Middle East, but have spent most of my life in the United States.  I now reside in Asheville, NC, but continue to travel as frequently as possible; my work often reflects the people I meet and the environments I see when traveling.

I attended art school (Swinburne Technical College) in Australia, and hold a B.A. in Theater Arts from Cal State Chico.  Since University, I have worked in the fields of archaeological illustration,education and curriculum-material writing and illustration.  I have attended five watercolor workshops with Canadian/Italian artist Judy Laertini and have taken various ceramics workshops in Greece and the U.S.  I recently attended a Kate Worm watercolor workshop.

I have shown and sold my art in Australia, the U.S., Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
